Swimming Lessons
Swimming Lessons are available throughout the year. Lessons are for children of all ages. A full list of upcoming classes and levels is available at the front desk.
Swimming Lesson Level Descriptions
Swim Basic
WATER ACCLIMATION (Ages 3-5): Increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with assistance. Ex. Submerging head, front & back floats, entering and exiting the water safely, front and back kicking.
WATER MOVEMENT (Ages 3-6): Encourages forward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently. Ex. Submerge head, front and back glides and floats, kicking, tread water.
WATER STAMINA (Ages 3-6): Develops intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances than in previous stages. Ex. Submerge and retrieve object on bottom, swim on front and back independently, roll, tread water, enter and exit pool safely and independently.
Swim Strokes
STROKE INTRODUCTION (Ages 6+): Introduces basic technique in front crawl and back crawl and reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary backstroke. Ex. Front crawl, back crawl, diving, elementary backstroke, tread water, Intro to breaststroke and butterfly kicks.
STROKE DEVELOPMENT (Ages 6+): Introduces breastroke and butterfly and reinforces water safety through treading water and sidestroke and front crawl and back crawl performed at longer distances. Ex. Front crawl, back crawl, diving, sidestroke, tread water, breaststroke, butterfly.
STROKE MECHANICS (Ages 8+): Refines stroke technique on all major competitive strokes and encourages swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle. Strokes are performed at a longer distance. Ex. Front crawl, back stroke, breastroke, butterfly, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, tread water, diving, flip turns.
Private Swim Lessons
The YMCA offers private lessons to those who would prefer 1-on-1 instruction. Lesson dates and times are set up by the instructor and are 1/2 hour long. Participants can purchase as many sessions as they want. Private lessons are set up by availability of instructors. A waiting list usually exists and you are contacted as soon as possible. Private Lessons are for all ages - Youth and Adults.
FEES: $15.00 per half an hour (Members), $20.00 per half an hour (Nonmembers)

Private Swimming Lessons
Youth & Adult Private Swim Lessons
The YMCA offers private lessons to those who would prefer 1-on-1 instruction. Lesson dates and times are set up by the instructor and are 1/2 hour long. Participants can purchase as many sessions as they want. Private lessons are set up by availability of instructors. A waiting list usually exists and you are contacted as soon as possible. Private Lessons are for all ages - Youth and Adults.
Fee
YMCA Member: $15.00 per 1/2 hour lesson
NON Member: $20.00 per 1/2 hour
Swimming Pool Rules
Our Promise…
To make the health and safety of our participants and staff our number one priority.
- Lifeguards are responsible for the safety of the pool, enforce rules and respond to emergencies. All lifeguard decisions are final.
- Parents or guardians are responsible for supervising their children.
- There is NO food or drink allowed in the pool area. Please keep food and drinks in the lobby area.
- Water in plastic water bottles is permitted.
- Profanity is not tolerated.
- No glass, gum, tobacco, alcohol or coolers.
- No street shoes allowed in the pool.
- All swimming patrons entering the water MUST be wearing a swim suit.
- Diving in specified areas only.
- No running or rough play in the hallways, shower rooms, or pool area.
- No water guns.
- Swim diapers are REQUIRED on all children age 2 and under. (unless toilet-trained)
- Children under the age of 8 MUST have someone 13 years old or older within arms reach of them at ALL TIMES.
- Please do not leave personal belongings in the pool area. Please put in a locker in the locker room area.
- Shower before entering the pool area.
- Only soft toys are allowed in the pool area.
- Never distract the lifeguards unless assistance is needed.
- Lifeguards do not replace parental supervision.
- Lifeguard decisions are final!
Swim Team
For boys & girls age 6-21. Practices are held during the week and meets are held on weekends. Participants must be YMCA members and program is held at the YMCA. Practice begins Oct 26th

Lifeguard Training
Red Cross Lifeguard Training Class
This course trains and certifies participants in Red Cross Lifeguarding. Participants must be at least 15 years of age by the end of the class. Components include lifeguard skills, CPR/AED, and First Aid. All participants must pass a swimming pretest in order to complete the course.

Class Information
All participants must bring a swim suit and towel to all class sessions. Certification is complete only if participant has attended all class sessions and completed written and in-water skills tests. Instructors will work around minor conflicts but all material misssed must be made up. Certification is good for 2 years.
Course Prerequistites
At least 15 years old.
300 yard continual swim using breaststroke or front crawl and rhythmic breathing.
2 minute deep water tread without using arms.
Timed 20 yard swim, retrieve a 10lb item from the bottom of the pool, return to starting point and exit the pool in less than one minute and forty seconds.
Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
Successful completion of the Red Cross Water Safety Instructor class will result in a 2 year certification to instruct Red Cross swimming lessons. Participants are expected to attend all class dates and times.

Course Prerequisites:
At least 16 years old.
Swimming the following five strokes for 25 yards continually: front crawl, backstroke, elementary backstroke, breaststroke and side stroke
Swimming the butterfly for 15 yards continually
2 minute deep water tread without using arms
1, 2, & U Infant Aquatic Class
Emphasis is placed on adjusting to the water and having a positive experience in the pool. At least one parent must accompany the child in the pool. Basic water skills are taught. Registration begins Jan 13.

Gym & Swim
This class is designed for children ages 3-5. Instructors use skills/games to help with balance, motor skills, hand eye coordination, body awareness, and social interaction. Class is divided between gym and pool activities. Class is limited to 10 participants, so sign up early!
